Since early morning, over 500 participants, including the delegates from the provincial authorities, the Japan Consulate in Danang, the local residents, employees from AEONMALL Vietnam and AEON Group companies, eagerly gathered to plant the first trees at AEON MALL Hue – the city’s most anticipated project.
This event is part of AEON Group’s ongoing efforts in Thua Thien Hue, following previous tree planting programs from 2010 to 2012, where AEON Group planted a total of 70,000 trees over 34 hectares in Lang Co with the local.
At the ceremony, over 5,000 native saplings from 8 different types will be planted, including: lady palm, peony, jasmine, wrightia, gardenia, hibiscus, bay laurel, and apricot. By planting tree species that are native to the area, we aim to nurture forests that are rooted in the community.
With the message “Nurture your green home”, each tree planted inspires our community to build and cultivate flourishing, eco-friendly living spaces which aligns with Hue City’s goals of becoming a more sustainable, livable urban center.
Mr. Mori Takero, Consul General of Japan in Da Nang shared: “AEON MALL Hue is seen as a project that strengthens the “comprehensive strategic partnership” between Vietnam and Japan in Central Vietnam. 5,000 trees planted will not only contribute to greening the area, but also symbolize the prosperity of Central Vietnam and become a symbol of friendship between Japan and the Central Vietnam”.
Among the participants, 150 students and teachers from 5 schools that the AEON 1% Club Foundation supported in building in Thua Thien Hue province excitedly joined in and carefully planted small seedlings one by one with their own hands.
The pupils shared: “We have helped our families plant trees in gardens, but this is the first time we have participated in a tree planting event at shopping mall. We are very happy and will come back to visit the trees.”
Mr. Nguyen Viet Bang – Vice Chairman of Hue city People’s Committee, affirmed: “The tree planting demonstrates a commitment to corporate social responsibility and the accompanying role in the area’s environmental protection policy, contributing to the leaders’’ vision of a green, clean, and bright Hue City. The City People’s Committee highly appreciates AEONMALL Vietnam’s efforts and dedication to environmental protection and urban landscape enhancement in the province and city”.
In a special highlight of the ceremony, AEON MALL Hue officially received the Gold certificate of the “Vietnam Green Building Criteria LOTUS System” from the Vietnam Green Building Council. AEON MALL Hue is the first shopping mall in Vietnam to achieve this prestigious certification. This recognition underscores AEON MALL’s commitment to environmental protection and dedication to enhancing the quality of life for the local community, in line with AEON Group’s principles.
Mr. Isobe Daisuke, Director of Overseas Business Unit, AEON MALL Co., Ltd. also shared: “AEON’s relationship with Vietnam began with the planting of forests and the construction of 30 primary schools by the AEON 1% Club foundation’s support in Thua Thien Hue province. Particularly, we have planted 111,119 trees together, including about 2,000 cherry blossom trees, the symbol of Japan, that have bloomed in Hanoi. The tree planting ceremony today is a meaningful activity to prepare for the official opening of AEON MALL Hue.”
